With their bulky luggage (including ME!), Big key and BKF made their way to the budget hostel they booked. As it is the weekend, the residence provided by the school is not available for check-in. BTW, we are going to Tulane University! It was named by Newsweek as one of the Hottest School in USA in 2008! Not sure if they mean the girls or the admission or the weather. hahaha.
Not much info of the school online.... no SG community there too. Only found China and Taiwan community there.
Back to reality. So we decide to take a cab to the hostel. With all the scary stories of the city in our mind ( famous for crime and such.) We decided to take the airport shuttle. $15usd per pax was not exactly cheap in our opinion. That was before tips. We gave another few dollars of tips. It was kinda basic manner to tip here. Normally around 10%-20% of the charge.
We reached the hostel and it looked just like any other house in the neighbourhood. It is called AAE Burbon House New Orleans. It was one of the cheapest with relatively decent reviews. (It costs us $95USD for 2 nites for 2 pax (+ squatter keykey)). The guy cum receptionist cum boss is a guy around 20 years old, not surprised if he is younger than keykey. Told us that there are many rooms left but he has 1 left. Ya... lucky us. Lucky? We were put up at a empty space which is curtained and have a double decker bed. It is super small.... No door, no lock, no privacy. Outside is a small kitchen. No discount if you are thinking about it. No keys deposit needed too!
Check out our room! behind the curtain on the left. The first room is the toilet. The one right smack in the middle is someone else's room. On the right is the mini kitchenette.
Our cosy Bangla-themed room! Big Key below, BKF on top. So cosy... Gay-ified both Big Key and BKF really fast!
The kitchenette outside. Can cook for Big Key! On second tot, not really super clean.
Being the all too nice asians, Big Key and BKF just settled in for the night. LOL. (Keykey tots: Losers! LOL)
Me on my cosy bed. Check out the blanket Big Key koped from his UA flight! hahaa.. Things that he learnt from his friends during during his first trip to Boston (Before i was born.) (Quite nice... felt cleaner than the bedsheet.)
Btw, for those who have not been following the blog, his trip is kinda a flashback of my keykey first trip to USA. During the trip, Big Key and me learnt/observed a lot of things and thus, will chronicle them along the way as different lessons.
For this trip,
Lesson 1: In USA, it is even more imperative to ask/demand for things that you want. In Singapore, you can wait and maybe, people will give you face. Here, you don't ask, they will eat you up. Not always the case, but definitely more often than not.
Lesson 2: Stay in a squeezy room with another guy if you want to know him fast.
Lesson 3: Unexpected stuff always happen. Just live with it and smile~ (Just like Keykey!)
